Every year we throw away 92 million tonnes of unwanted clothing. Most of it is polyester - made of plastic that ends up on our beaches and in our seas.
Only a small fraction is recycled, and the rest is sent to landfill or incinerators. Wouldn’t it be great if we could do something more useful with all those old clothes instead?
The Eco-Stitch Club course teaches children how to use sewing machines to upcycle unwanted textiles into beautiful new items they’ll love forever.
"I like the course as you get to make really cool stuff and IT'S SO FUN!"
Grace, age 9
"I love sewing. The course has taught me all I know about sewing and it has been really inspiring. I now want to pursue a career in fashion."
Laura, age 12
Our course can be run in a classroom setting, as an after school club or as part of your Design & Technology curriculum.
Children learn at their own pace from a series of easy to follow video exercises. The course is structured to teach them the sewing fundamentals and problem solving skills they’ll need to make their first projects.
Typical projects run over 10 week terms, but can be shorter or longer based on the needs of each school.
As children learn to use minds and hands in harmony, they can learn to create, update, repair and upcycle.
