How it works

Eco Stitch Clubs are delivered via our online learning programme called "Fashion Rebellion".

Since 2009, founder Amanda Riley has run over 3,000 eco-sewing workshops in her studio and used this knowledge to create the Fashion Rebellion programme.

Each easy to follow project is broken into bite-size chunks with repetition and reminders of key aspects to promote good habits.

With our programme, larger groups of beginners learn to operate a sewing machine without a headache for club leaders.

flexible delivery

The programme can be run during school hours, after school, lunchtimes or whenever required. It can be delivered as an after school club or as part of the curriculum.

self-paced learning

Pupils follow a course of short instructional videos, working at their own pace, on their own machines. Because they don’t feel any pressure to keep up with the class, learning is fun.

bite-size content

Each 3-8 minute video adds a new strand of knowledge or puts into practice newly learned techniques.

structured zones

Pupils work through zones to create simple upcycling projects while learning life-skills that empower and encourage more sustainable choices.

“[The programme] has been a huge success at our school. Children love it and are very proud of their creations. Parents are so keen for their children to attend we are starting a third club this term. We can't keep up with demand!! This has been one of our most successful clubs ever.”

Getting set up is easy

All you need to run the course are the following:

1. Tablets with headphones & good wifi
2. Sewing machines
3. Some basic sewing materials & unwanted fabric

That’s it!

We'll help you with renting or purchasing equipment via our partners if needed.

If you run the programme as an after school club, we can also help find a local Club Leader and will provide free training for them.

Develop confidence and focus

Pupils are encouraged to repeat anything they don’t understand as often as needed, leading to fewer mistakes and improved confidence. This helps pupils learn to use a sewing machine properly and without frustration.

It’s a cost effective and easy way to support pupils while helping to reduce global textile impacts.
